The Audio Occlusion Plugin for Unreal helps your game sound more realistic by automatically making sounds quieter or muffled when they're behind walls, doors, or other obstacles—just like in real life.
The plugin uses a custom OccludedAudioSceneComponent that you attach to any AudioComponent in your game. At runtime, it calculates how sound waves would travel through your level and adjusts the audio based on what’s between the sound and the listener.
To do this, the plugin turns your world into a voxel grid (a 3D map made of small blocks) and simulates how audio would move through it. You can enable Voxel Preview in the Details panel to visualize how the plugin "hears" your level.
Easily customize:
Audio range
Voxel resolution
Ignored colliders
Decay rate over time
Looping and playback settings
You’ll find a fully functional example level at: All/Content/AudioOcclusionPlugin/Example/Example.umap
This demo shows how sound reacts to obstacles and how to configure allowed/ignored colliders.
Whether you’re building a fast-paced shooter or an atmospheric adventure, the Audio Occlusion Plugin for Unreal adapts in real time—so your sound always fits your environment.
Includes embedded text and video documentation for fast and easy setup.
